Sid and Malavika go wakeboarding in Dubai Marina – and end up seeing wild dolphins!

What is Wake boarding?
Imagine wearing boots attached to a plank. Now you are tied to the back of a boat by a long rope. Now the boat moves. You try to stand on the water. That is Wake boarding!

Where do we try this?
Extreme Wake UAE – will take you out on a boat and teach you how to do this! They are quite awesome.

How things pan out:
We landed up at Dubai Marina in our board shorts and rash guards and met Ashwin. He’s a super cool dude! We get onto a boat and sail out to near the tip of the Palm.

Sid decides to go first. (THERE ARE DOLPHINS IN THE WATER. I’M SQUEALING AND JUMPING IN EXCITEMENT) Sid jumps in laced up to his board. The shoes are connected to the board. He’s got to turn in the water too… That’s quite hard!

Ashwin gives him instructions like – Practice a squat like stance, count down to 5 before you stand, I’ll start the boat, you take your time, breathe and stand.

We try it about 10 times (DOLPHINS ARE STILL SWIMMING AND LEAPING AND PLAYING IN THE BACK GROUND!!!!WOOOOOHOOOOO)

Then I give it a shot. Equally unsuccessful at standing up. You jusssssst about stand up and chappppaaak! You are down in the water again. Salt water in your nose and your eyes and your ears but so, rearing to try again.

(DID I MENTION THE DOLPHINS….? SORRY… DISTRACTED BY THE AWESOMENESS OF THIS!)

Moral of the story: We were not very good at it, but we tried and we loved it. If we go back, and we will go back a second time – we’ll hack the trick!

Costs: AED550 an hour

Worth it? : TOTALLY!!!!!
