Wanderlust With Parikshit | Las Vegas
This is what happens in Vegas
Did you know there is a service in Las Vegas that will come to you and cure a hangover with IV fluids and IV Vitamins.
It was in October last year when I went on this ‘Best of USA’ trip and Vegas was one of the destinations. A return flight to Las Vegas could cost you anywhere between 3000 Dirhams and 4500 Dirhams and just flying to Vegas is not feasible unless you are Richie Rich.
In this blog, I am going to tell you about the top things to do in Vegas and some hidden gems you can’t afford to miss. More than 40 Million people visit Las Vegas each year, 17 of the 20 biggest hotels in the US are in Vegas and like Mumbai it’s hot, humid and crowded (but a lot more glamorous and without Mumbai Local). Everything here is expensive and under the influence.
Although for a lot of people Vegas seems inaccessible but paying about 3500 for having the best time of your life doesn’t sound bad at all.
Vegas is a place only for entertainment, entertainment and entertainment. There are more slot machines than men in a ladies compartment in a Mumbai Local, there are more places to party than people standing in queues outside ATMs in India after demonetization.
Here are the top few things I would suggest to do in Las Vegas –
- Take a picture next to the Las Vegas sign – This sign is historic and was never copyrighted, hence you could see a lot of replicas. People have literally risked their lives to get a picture with this sign. The Vegas sign is right outside the town and a place where tourists want to get a picture just because everyone else has it. Pro tip – It is very crowded, so wait for that exact moment when there is no one in the background.
Visit a Chapel of Love – Got your match, a ring, and guts to get married without informing anyone? Go to a Chapel of Love in Vegas and if you want an unforgettable moment then get Elvis Presley to get you married. Getting married in Vegas is so popular that it seems like just another thing to do in the Sin City. Also, a lot of chapels do a wedding experience. The weddings done without a wedding license are not legal, it’s like test driving a car before buying it.
When in Vegas, gamble – Somethings in life are obvious – Like you need to put on your seat belt before your flight takes off or Rajesh Roshan (an Indian music composer) is bound to give you nightmares with his music and when in Vegas you need to lose all your money. I hated Vegas just because I almost lost all my money. They have machines at the airport, in every hotel and just when you think you need a break and go to the washroom – They’ve got machines there as well. Seriously? Anyway! Remember, Vegas wants all your money, it’s like that ex-wife who demands heavy alimony. Casinos in Vegas are a maze and they’re designed to confuse you. I can’t even tell you how many people forget their way out after a couple of drinks and end up staying indoors and playing. This is what they’re meant for. Play responsibly.
Grand Canyon – Now this is something you definitely should do in Vegas. It’s about 2 hours and 30 minutes drive from Vegas. Many consider it to be one of the seven wonders of the natural world. This place is mesmerizing and it reveals about 40% of the earth’s history. There are several ways to see the Grand Canyon – by foot, by bus, by air or by rafts. My personal favorite is – by air in a helicopter. You fly from an airbase into the grand canyon, you land somewhere with breathtaking views and have lunch. This is the coolest thing I’ve done.
1 Dollar Hotdog store (Footlong Hotdog) – Trust me! You will need that, either after a long night of partying or after losing all your money in the casinos, either way, it is a win-win situation. Everything in Vegas is really really *one more time* really expensive. This is a place where satisfaction is guaranteed. If you have a high budget then walk into any hotel on the vegas strip.
Stratosphere – This place is a tower/hotel/casino located on North of the Vegas Strip. It is the tallest structure in Las Vegas and has some really crazy rides on the top of it. Insanity ride is a must try – it dangles riders over the edge of the tower and then spins in a circular pattern at approximately forty miles per hour. Please do not eat anything before stepping on this ride.
Limo party ride – Nuff Said 🙂
Hit the Clubs – If you like clubbing then Vegas is on top of this chain, That is what Vegas is about. They have some of the best clubs in the world. Lights, music, and parties comes as naturally to Vegas as an accent comes to Katrina Kaif. The average Vegas Club is bigger than my waistline. That’s a lot.
Clubs like Hakkasan, M and Omnia will leave you feeling like you could MOVE to Vegas permanently.
Catch a Vegas show – The World’s best magicians, performers and star-shows consider it an honor performing in Vegas. There is a star around every corner. They have more star performers on stage than there are struggling actors in Bollywood. Don’t miss Cirque du Soleil, the MJ Show and Lion King! Look out for the way these shows use stage craft. What was water becomes a jungle and turns into a mountain and turns back into a desert, all under 5 minutes. They have probably spent more on their stage lights and costumes than an Emirates Hills Sindhi Family would spend on their daughter’s wedding.
Head downtown to Fremont street for the light show and Heart Attack Grill – Almost every Bollywood movie shot in Vegas have a scene on this street. The light shows on this street happen every hour from 6pm till 12 midnight, so it’s like their Dubai Fountain. You can zipline through the show and OVER the crowd and restaurants have these strange ‘All-You-Can-eat’ type deals. So if wolfing down a 6000 calorie burger is your thing then be prepared to eat a lot of free food. By the way, Bhukkads – ear mark Heart Attack Grill for the deal. This place feeds everyone over 350 pounds absolutely free. There are real videos of actual customers been taken to hospital in ambulances. The Fremont Street Experience offers free nightly shows featuring 12.5 million lights and 550,000 watts of amazing sound at VivaVision. Enjoy free concerts and special events throughout the year.
Shop in Vegas – Since you live in the shopping capital of the world, we presume you like spending money on nice things. But why spend a lot of money when you can get it for cheap? I bought a DKNY shirt for 20 dollars. But if you want the deals that I got, then you have to walk 20 minutes out of the tourist district and off the strip to the lesser known outlet stores. So go out there and stock up on formal shoes, shirts and more because clubs really mean what they say about the dress code. Basically, BE cheap. Don’t look cheap. Everything I am wearing in these pictures was bought from outlet stores in Vegas.
Pawn Shop – There is ONE famous Pawn shop in Vegas and you HAVE to go! Here’s where people trade in things they have had in their family for years or things they own that are collector’s items for money. The best part is you get to buy this stuff too.
