Disha | Project Intern

Q : Hi Disha, First things first, (Welcome to City 1016) Tell us how old are you and how long have you been in Dubai?
A: Thank you so much! I couldn’t be happier. I’ve always thought of City 101.6 as THE dream workplace and now here I am, living the dream. (YAY!) I’m 21, what many like to call the trademark age. Dubai has been home to me since almost 10 years, before which I was in Oman. #Gulfbaby!

Q: School school? College college?
A: My ‘baccho ka school time’ (are you humming it in the Action School time ad tune too?) was spent in The Millennium School Dubai, after which I studied Media and Communication from Manipal University, Dubai, with a specialization in Journalism.
Q: When did you realise radio was something you wanted to get into?
A: I’ve always always wondered what goes behind all the awesomeness that is City 101.6. And I know now by observing and learning, that radio is not even half as easy as its made to seem. Its not just *turn on the mic-crack a few jokes-play a few songs*. There is so much more and this ‘so much more’ is what I can’t wait to dig deeper into!
Q: Like Movies? What are the last 3 movies you loved?
A: LOVE movies! I’d like to believe that I’m easily the biggest Bollywood buff and I couldn’t be more excited to intern with the biggest Bollywood radio station. I love everything Bollywood, from the big, blockbuster masala movies, to the ones that do not manage to rake in all the moolah but always win critics’ votes.
2016 wasn’t the best year for Bollywood, as per my opinion, but it still had its share of AMAZING movies. Among those, these three easily top my list:

1) Dangal (The first time I actually could take my eyes off Mr.Perfectionist. #ChaaalGitaBabita!)
2) Kapoor & Sons (For some strange reason I always like to compare this with Dil Dhadakne Do and I feel like Shakun Batra’s Kapoor & Sons did a better job in portraying your ‘real’, every day family. Kudos!)
3) Nil Battey Sannata (This isn’t a 2016 release but it’ll be almost sinful to leave this out. Simplicity at its absolute best!)

: What are the last 3 songs you loved so much, you couldn’t stop singing?
A: 1) Channa Mereya (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil)
2) Yeh Fitoor Mera (Fitoor)
3) Gehra Ishq (Neerja)
Q: 3 things you you discovered after joining City 1016 studios?
A: 1) I discovered what Dubai mornings look like!
2) A cup of coffee at 6 AM definitely goes a long way
3) A LOT of planning and hard work goes into even your favourite Bollywood songs that City lines up for you everyday!
Q: Things you just can’t wait for to discover/introduce at City 1016?
A: Celebrities! I cannot wait to see, participate and learn how City does Bollywood the way it does it, from the interviews, to the customary #CityWelcome. Kudos to the entire team on being the undisputed king of Bollywood. As a journalism student, I’ve been taught (and I follow this religiously) to prioritize a byte from a celebrity over a selfie, ALWAYS! And I would love to contribute the little that I have during my internship program.
