Gully Boy featuring Ranvir Singh and Alia Bhatt

Ok let’s start with a disclaimer. I am a huge Zoya Akhtar-Reema Kagti fan. If there is an interview of these two ladies anywhere on the internet, I have devoured it. Several times. Ok I sound like a stalker. Maybe I am. Hehe. And I remember Zoya once said that Salaam Bombay was one of her favorite films, a film close to my heart. And it only makes sense for her to make a feature film on a rapper from our amchi Mumbai who made big news in the music industry. Yep Gully Boy is based on Bhuvan Bam, an Indian YouTube personality, a singer, a comedian and if followers/subscribers and numbers are anything to go by, he has (hold your breath for this one) over 5 million followers and over 720 million views. You seem excited now. Don’t open another window. Watch one of his biggest hits here only-

So coming back to the movie. There are many reasons that will make it a must watch.

    1. Casting- It’s Ranvir Singh and Alia Bhatt. I mean two of the most incredible actors from our age coming together for the first time is one of the best casting coups ever!! We have already seen their chemistry in a few ads. What? You haven’t!? No worries. Watch it here-

2. A lot of people don’t know this, Ranvir Singh used to write copies at one point in time and to play a song writer from Mumbai is just so befitting. The character is also a rapper and we all know about Ranvir’s rapping abilities. I remember he once spontaneously made a rap for my show on City 1016. Check out his rapping skills here-

3. Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti- They pretty much are the best in business. They started with such a critically claimed film (my favorite so far- Luck By Chance) and soon understood the necessity of entertainment and commercial value of films. (Though for me Lucky By Chance is their most entertaining film!) Zoya recently shared this pic on social media, talking about how they would start the shoot in two weeks.

So yeah!! I am super duper excited and can’t wait to watch the film.
